A Little More About F and Adam Marnie
Back in July of last year, I had my first contact with F after stumbling across an issue at Basket Books (another first contact). I then made a point of meeting Marnie (really, he made the effort) and wrote a post about him and his F media empire. I reviewed Iva Kinnaird’s exhibit at F about a month later. So for about six months, Marnie and F have been intermittently on my mind.
Now I have written a short profile of Marnie and the F industrial/cultural complex for the Chron (the Houston Chronicle’s online sister publication). “Every art scene needs a champion. Houston has Adam Marnie.” treats Marnie a little like a celebrity, which feels weird. But fuck it. The Manifesto of Futurism was published on the front page of Le Figaro in 1909. Our artists today should be celebrated in the mass media.
I look forward to more from F.
TJ Mahoney gives Marnie a hardcore intellectual look in his photos. Good job, TJ!
