You are right of course--I was just saying that that was when I became aware that it was its own thing, I would say that various girl group of the 60s (not just the Phil Spector bands--it was a popular widespread thing) and the Yé-yé pop singers (mostly from France) fit in as well. The thing about the 60s girl groups is that they don't seem to have been marketed as sex symbols like say Madonna or Britney were--or like so many of current girly pop singers are. (The Yé-yé from France were a little more outwardly sexual to my ears than their contemporaneous American girl singers). And I feel certain that better pop music observers than me could identify even earlier pop music by female sex symbols.
Thaanks for sorting through the gals so I can catch up quickly. Lt's proceed to girly-rock
Well, we all have our foibles. I got a kick out of your honest admissions.
Girl pop long predates Brittany, right? Tiffany, Whitney Houston, Madonna even arguably, all the 60s Phil Spector girl bands?

I love that you made it through the 80s without being aware of girl pop.
I was aware of individual performers--I just didn't lump them all together
