A few observations
I've often wondered how Picasso managed to remain unmolested in Paris during the occupation after having painted Guernica. He actually joined the communist party after the war, although he remained a wealthy man.
He was not unmolested. However, being rich and famous was a good way to avoid the routine miseries experienced by the average Parisian.
He he is with Lee Miller, August 1945. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/features/when-picasso-met-lee-miller-10269263.html
Lee Miller is mentioned in the biography. Picasso met her in the 30s sometimes because she was part of the surrealist milieu.
She was the wife of Roland Penrose, artist and friend of Picasso. His autobiography, Scrapbook, is very interesting.
