Just to clarify about the original score, I apologize if my comments suggested that Glass obtained permission from Auric directly - your are correct that is not the case. Glass obtained the rights to do this opera by getting permissions from the estates of both Cocteau and Auric.

I figured it was something like that. It wasn't a criticism--I love what Glass (and Riesman and the singers and musicians) did with the movie. After reading The War on Music by John Mauceri, I am eager to give soundtrack composers their due, hence my mention of Auric.
