I have been writing about the Big Show at Lawndale ever since I started this blog in 2009. You can read my reports (as well as a few guest critic reports1) on 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2021. (I think I got bored writing about the Big Show in 2016 through 2019, and 2020’s Big Show was canceled due to disease stalking the land).
The reason I’m writing about it now is that the deadline for entries is March 21, and I want to make certain my readers know about it/ Here are the rules:
The Big Show is open to artists living within a 100-mile radius of Lawndale.
Each artist may submit up to 3 original artworks completed between January 2020 to present.
Work must fit through the 6' 9" x 4' 11" entryway and cannot exceed 200 pounds in weight.
Works previously exhibited in Houston will be disqualified.
All works must be exhibition ready and include proper hanging hardware. Works that are not stable enough to endure the exhibition may not be eligible.
All works must be available for the duration of the exhibition. (June 18 to August 30).
Work is submitted electronically. Read more about it here. There is no submission fee. As far as I can tell, the artwork can be from any time, as long as the submitter fits the conditions above. So pull out that great drawing you did that one time and submit it to the Big Show!
