Over the weekend of March 20 - 23, Rice University in Houston, Texas, hosted a tiny academic conference dedicated to comics called Comics Sans Frontières.
What a great conference! I had no idea that Rice had this much comics-related activity! I loved all of the panels, and it was small enough that I was able to meet and talk to a lot of the participants. And I made some new Houston friends (the cartoonist you mention in your article and their friends). And it was nice seeing you as always. I hope there is another one next year!
A great post, Robert. I had no idea either about any of this - no idea whatsoever that Rice is a major force in comic analysis and curation. Proof once again that the Ivies are overrated - the action in a lot of niche genres are to be found beyond the Harvards, the Yales, and the Princetons.
